“You Give Up”

All my life I’ve been told:

“You give up. You don’t have goals. You don’t stick with things.”

And they were absolutely right.

I gave up many, many times.

I gave up school when it was clear I wasn’t able to finish it.

I gave up boyfriends when they were abusive.

I gave up living in my homeland, when Nature wanted me to move to a different continent.

I gave up a comfortable married life, when it no longer was in my Highest Good.

I gave up staying in my cozy home, when the bank took it.

I gave up stresses that were hurting me.

I gave up fighting for things, when it felt like swimming upstream.

I gave up living a normal life as a young adult. I gave up any desire or notion of any kind of career. I gave up the accepted behavior of going to parties, wearing short skirts, drinking or anything else that was touted as a normal life.

Instead, in this life, I chose to go for the Highest.

I chose the tough and rewarding path of a spiritual seeker, like so many of my dearest friends.

Chances are, if you are reading this, you are one of them.

I chose living the life of a nun for several years, of not making money, of serving, of being with my master, of meditating, of going inward, of helping others, of living a simple life.

Did I give up? Oh yes, I did. And how wonderful that I did.

But there are things I don’t ever give up on:

I don’t give up on friends. I don’t give up on family. I don’t give up on our animal friends. I don’t give up on our beautiful planet so many are hell bound on destroying.

I don’t give up on loved ones, even if they treat me poorly.

I don’t give up on my spiritual goal, even if it kicks me in the ass.

Most of all, I don’t give up on my path, my dharma, even if it’s hard as hell.

That’s why I’m here. That’s why I’ll never give up helping humanity with whatever it is I have to give. Just like you.

Turns out, we don’t give up on what really matters.

Even if that means we have to hear again and again:

“You give up”.
